Felix and Oscar
When we first got here, it made sense to rent a car, just as G's predecessor had done the entire time before him. It was nice not to have to worry about insurance or taxes or registration. Every few weeks we could even get a different one if we wanted. After a bit, though, we did the math and decided it would be well worth buying a couple of used cars instead--and easier all around as our lives picked up a bit and we more frequently needed to be two places at once.
So now we finally have two cars, fondly known as Felix and Oscar.
Felix is a tidy little sporty VW Golf. He's four years old and still pretty pristine, just the way he likes it. He works out. He doesn't really tolerate a lot of rubbish on his black seats and carpets. He zips into any parking spot and is pretty eco conscious, don'tcha know. He's our city mouse.
I don't have a photo of Felix and am too lazy to go out now to take one but imagine this is him. The zipping is very Felix-like.
And then there's Oscar. He's a big, old, messy, argy-bargy 1999 Toyota Landcruiser. (This old car has secretly been my dream car for ages. Anyone else remember the car Sydney Bristow drove on Alias? Yep, this one.) Sometimes he likes to sleep in and not wake up at the very first request. Sometimes he stinks in the morning. But he's rugged and fun and a lovable rascal (definitely not so eco conscious, though he is does run on either natural gas or petrol). He's our country (outback) mouse...
...especially since he can pull this load of Scout gear all around the bush (G is the gear guy for the troop).
There's something we didn't know about Oscar, though. Recently G and a colleague were walking up to the car together, straight toward the front. As they got closer they both noticed something simultaneously. The other guy said, laughing...
"um....BAD BOY, huh?"
Ha! There's one spot we did not check out before purchasing! Typical Oscar, he got the last laugh on that one.
(Here's what we're not sure about: Do you think it's labeling Oscar or the driver?)
