Oh my, I am loving Sunday evenings this winter! PBS + Masterpiece Classics are treating us to some fabulous offerings. Have you been watching?
. . .
Emma (3 parts: January 24-February 7, 2010)
"Let's cheer ourselves up; let us think of superior men..." (p.s. I love the wallpaper in Emma's house.)
. . .
The 39 Steps (February 28, 2010)
Ah, Rupert Penry-Jones + the hilarious Hitchcock-inspired play, which I was lucky to catch in London a couple of years ago and this fall in NYC. Can't wait.
. . .
Diary of Anne Frank (April 11, Holocaust Remembrance Day) + Video Diary project
Maddy and her friend are currently making a movie based on the Diary of Anne Frank for a social studies project. Do you remember the first time you read it? "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." Heartbreaking, poignant, inspiring. I think I need to pull out the book and read it again this spring.
Catch the rest of the most excellent schedule here, including encore presentations of Sense & Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, and some interesting new ones. Bravo, BBC/PBS/WGBH!
And now, back to the 21st century and I'm off to take the girls to the (thankfully not Jane Austen-era) dentist.
